Leopard
Thinking about the prompt for today’s @indexcardaday I thought of Visconti’s 1963 picture The Leopard. This film won the Palme D’Or at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival. My friend Ted @tedmurphy7 has encouraged me to watch more Visconti pictures including his 1960 epic Rocco and His Brothers, which I did see. He wrote to me back in July:
*** Visconti is overshadowed by Fellini, Antonioni, Rossellini and De Sica, (pretty good company) but Rocco hangs in there as a masterpiece on so many levels.
Visconti managed to continue making lavish period pieces which were the box office choice in post war Italian cinema. Senso,The Leopard, and Death in Venice being great examples. ***
I could not find The Leopard on any streaming service, and my library system did not have a disk available, so today I put in an interlibrary loan request.
The text on my card comes from Ulysses p. 129:
Hot mockturtle vapour and steam
of jampuffs rolypoly poured out from
Harrison’s. The heavy noonreek
tickled the top of Mr Bloom’s gullet.
