Junk Journal Week 22

This week I read three recently published novels that were all very good. Still working my way, one short story at a time, through Lore Segal’s Ladies’ Lunch — a very good collection you should consider reading.

I watched two Todd Haynes pictures. The first picture, on Mubi, was Carol a doomed lesbian love story based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt. The second picture, on Apple TV Plus, was a non-traditional documentary on The Velvet Underground.

Shoplifters, on Peacock, was my first Hirozaku Kore-era picture. An almost documentary like picture about a family of people on the margins of urban Japanese society. “Does giving birth make you a mother?”
