Fireworks

I used acrylic markers and a black marker to make the fireworks. The balloons are gelliprint collages.

Today’s quote comes from Ulyses p. 273:

And this person loves that other person 

because everybody loves somebody 

but God loves everybody.

This reminds me of a line from Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics:

Hē de eudaimonia estin energeia psychēs kat’ aretēn teleian en biō teleiō.

Translated: Happiness is an activity of the soul in accordance with complete virtue in a complete life.

For Aristotle, long term happiness comes from leading a virtuous life as a member of a community.

I was thinking about today being the fourth of July, not so much about fireworks, but about the parade I watched today. It is important to participate in social and ommunity activities as part of the journey toward righteousness and long term happiness.
