Current Reading: Dhalgren

 

Currently working my way through Samuel R. Delany's Dhalgren. It might be a little while before I post anything else, because at better than 800 pages, it will take time to finish this book.

Having read Delany's Motion of Light in Water recently helps in digesting Dhalgren. The things Delany cared about in that book keep coming up:  

• his queerness, 
• sex, yes, sex, in its muchness,
• being black in America and passing,
• science, learning, and being an autodidact,
• even his fetish with men who chew their fingernails.
