Junk Journal Week 2
With reading this past week, I had a rare book I did not finish, but I enjoyed everything else. It was nice to briefly interact with Elizabeth O’Connor on social media. Her short book is worth reading, at least in my opinion.
As far as screens, I see that I saw two documentaries and two fiction pictures. The Geoff McFetridge movie was good not only because I liked learning about his work and biography, but he was much more concerned about self-care than some other artists seem to be. One character refers to the heist in Logan Lucky as Ocean’s Seven Eleven, which, I suppose is as good a description as any. I thought Minted went into quite a bit of depth about how NFTs connect to the larger art world and also how they connect to the world of technology, cryptocurrency, and the block chain. The Stepford Wives is yet another screen adaptation of the Ira Levin novel and worth your time even if it is definitely not a masterpiece. It is part of a Nicole Kidman festival currently on the Criterion Channel. I look forward to watching other movies she acted in including: Dead Calm, To Die For, The Portrait of a Lady, Eyes Wide Shut, The Hours, Birth, Dogville (on Mubi), Margot at the Wedding, and The Paperboy.
What about you? What have you been reading and watching lately? And are you a Nicole Kidman fan.
Note: I was listening to some Sam and Dave, Curtis Mayfield, Roberta Flack, and the Spinners this morning.
Second note: the collage text is from Paul Yoon’s story “War Dogs” in the Oct 28, 2024 issue of the New Yorker.
