Three Types of Stories in American Gods

I am about halfway through Neil Gaiman's American Gods. (I have not seen the Starz television show.) In my opinion, the novel has three stories in it:

mythology or stories of ancient gods, demons, and other supernatural creatures.
the American road trip with stops in small towns in Wisconsin and Illinois so far. This gives Gaiman a chance to comment on regional specialties like the UP pastie.
the trickster or stories of cons and grifts.
