Gardening in Raised Beds

In case anyone is interested, we have a small yard that is only twelve feet across but we still do some summer gardening in raised beds. We have two raised beds that are each six by four feet. Michal and I went to Home Depot (any lumber store will work) and bought:

  1. two boards 6 feet long 10 inches wide
  2. two boards 4 feet long and 10 inches wide
  3. 10 rebars 24 inches long.

Then:

  • Simply pick your spot
  • clear it off if needed
  • lay out the boards
  • take a hammer and pound a rebar in near each corner and one each in the middle on the long side
  • fill with potting soil.

This site has many options. The one Michal and I did is even simpler than number 2 on that site, the no-frills garden bed.
