Junk Journal Week Three
It was a rare week of no book buying. Also note that I received a jury service notice but a few days before I needed to report was told that my service is no longer required.
About the books I read:
I think of Yiyun Li as the poet of grief. Her books are also filled with beautiful well-constructed sentences. If you consider yourself a contemplative type who enjoys literary fiction I commend her books to you.
The late Gary Paulsen is best known for his wilderness survival story Hatchet -- a book that has certainly been read by millions. Gone to the Woods is about his hardscrabble childhood up until he joins the military as a teenager. It is definitely a story of grit and resistance.
