Recent Reading: Bronze and Sunflower

Bronze and Sunflower by Cao Wenxuan is a charming Chinese children’s novel that I read in English translation. It is set during the Cultural Revolution — but it is not a political book and tells the story of a girl named Sunflower and a boy named Bronze and the struggles they and their families have in rural China. The book represents excellent examples of two things I would like to read more of:

  1. Children’s literature, and
  2. Literature originally written in a language other than English
