TR on Wilson
You are probably familiar with Teddy Roosevelt's phrase "speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." It summed up, in a pithy way, his thoughts on foreign policy.
After he left the presidency, TR was never one to keep his thoughts to himself. According to Berg's biography of Wilson that I am reading now, TR said the following about Wilson's foreign policy:
Instead of speaking softly and carrying a big stick ... President Wilson spoke bombastically and carried a dishrag.
Berg also says:
TR never stopped attacking the President for reducing the country to an "elocutionary ostrich."
